St. George's
Anglican Church

A mission of
The Episcopal
Missionary Church

St. George's Anglican Church is a mission in the Diocese of the South of the Episcopal Missionary Church. We are not associated with The Episcopal Church.* We are, however, a loving home for traditional Episcopalians. We invite all to join us who are hungry for God and His Word, concerned for the needs of others, and who seek to reverently worship and serve the Saviour.

Normal Service Schedule:
Beginning September, '08: Weekly Holy Communion at 5:00 P.M.
All services are held at the chapel of First Lutheran Church, 2800 McCallie Ave.

Our Vicar: The Revd. Jim Gibson, may be reached by calling 423 290 7711, or by e-mail.

We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer in all our services.

John R. W. Stott on Anglicanism: ...we must judge the Church by its official formularies .... The Anglican Communion continues to look to the Prayer Book and Articles as its foundation documents, even where subscription to them has been relaxed. We refuse to contradict our inheritance.

* A historic note: What is called today "The Episcopal Church" was originally the Anglican Church (the Church of England) in the American colonies. After the "American Revolution," American Anglicans did not want to be associated with the King of England and the Church of England for political reasons, so they decided to call themselves "The Protestant Episcopal Church." They now simply call themselves "The Episcopal Church". We at St. George's use the older name, Anglican, to distinguish ourselves from this Episcopal Church and to denote our attempt to foster the best of the Church of England tradition.
